AAF presents 2009 Silver Medal Award to Cheryl Reitan of UMD
3/11/2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DULUTH, Minn. (March 10, 2010)—Cheryl Reitan, Director of Marketing and Communication at UMD, has recently been announced the 2010 winner of the Silver Medal by the American Advertising Federation Duluth/Superior (AAF-D/S), the highest honor to be received by an advertising practitioner bestowed upon by their peers.

The award, given annually to a person who has made outstanding contributions to the community and to advertising, was presented the Silver Medal at the 34th annual  ADDY Awards Show on March 5 at Teatro Zuccone in Duluth.

Reitan has been a member of the AAF-D/S since 1990, and has served as treasurer, vice-president and president of the organization. She initiated the education scholarship program in 1991, which continues today. She has volunteered for many AAF-D/S public service projects, and co-chaired a local methamphetamine education and awareness project in 2008 that received a national AAF award.

“Cheryl’s many volunteer efforts in our community are obvious and doggone it—she just plain earned it! Her 20 years of dedicated service and promotion of AAF Duluth/Superior includes starting and serving as our education chair and continuing to mentor and encourage her students to be actively involved in AAF D/S. Thank you, Cheryl!” said Kelley Eldien, who nominated Reitan for the award. Eldien, a customer communications administrator at Minnesota Power, serves on the AAF D/S board of directors.

The award, which is the AAF’s highest honor, was founded in 1959 and established locally in 1979. Candidates are nominated and judged by past Silver Medal winners and current AAF D/S board members on their merits in four areas:
• Contribution to His/Her Company
