FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DULUTH, Minn. (March 12, 2010)—Five students were awarded a total of $2,300 March 5 during the 34th annual ADDY® Awards Show hosted by the American Advertising Federation of Duluth/Superior (AAF D/S). The winners included:
- FIRST PLACE $750 winner Lisa Jefferson of DBU for Eat Color
- SECOND PLACE $500 winner Danielle Rhodes of UMD for Center Magazine
- SECOND PLACE $500 winner Paul M. Zahorosky of DBU for January Calendar
- THIRD PLACE $250 winner Danielle Rhodes of UMD for Let’s Talk About Sex
- THIRD PLACE $250 winner Zachary Zorbas of DBU for Zorba Stationary Package
As part of its educational mission of recognizing the region’s top collegiate advertising and creative marketing work, AAF Duluth/Superior created the new Student ADDY Scholarship Competition this year—melding what in past years had been separate Scholarship and ADDY competitions. A professional panel judged the 35 student submissions in February. Funds raised during the annual AAF Media Auction in November were used to award scholarships.
“This year one of our club goals was to increase student participation in the AAF. This was a way to offer students an additional incentive to become involved and participate in ADDYs,” said Manny Rivas, Student ADDY Scholarship Chair. “The newly designed program lets students submit work from their personal portfolios, course assignments or clubs.”
Above and beyond receiving local cash prizes, ADDY-winning work advances to a District competition, which includes work from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota. Winners at that level go on to compete among the best advertising materials in the nation.
The ADDY Show, held this year at Zeitgeist Arts Café in Duluth, MN, is the culmination of 2009 professional and student work and is the largest single event of the year for area advertising agencies, broadcast organizations, production companies, freelance writers, artists, photographers and other creative marketing professionals.
The AAF Duluth/Superior is composed of more than 100 local advertising experts and works to enhance the professional development of club members, increase recognition for the advertising industry, and give back to the local community. AAF Duluth/Superior is a local affiliate of the American Advertising Federation, a national organization that represents the advertising industry in its entirety.
