Making the Twin Ports Google Fiber Friendly
May 27 at Northland Country Club
DULUTH, Minn. (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, May 18, 2010)—What do you call a grass roots effort that mobilized an array of marketers, techies, civic and business leaders, educators and beyond—all in the name of attracting one of the most influential companies on earth to try a bold new venture? Three words: Google Twin Ports.
Here’s a chance to learn more about the Twin Ports’ bid for high-speed fiber optic cable, a potential $100 million community investment.
Join the College of St. Scholastica School of Extended Studies and AAF Duluth/Superior for an 11:45 am luncheon Thursday, May 27 at Northland Country Club. Chris Swanson and Patrick Garmoe of Pure Driven, a Two Harbors-based Web strategy company, will discuss the progress of the Google Twin Ports initiative and its potential benefits for the local economy.
Reservations can be made online at aafduluthsuperior.com. Cost is $15 for AAF members, $25 for non-members, and $10 for students.
“Both Chris and Pat worked diligently with other key stakeholders, including many from AAF D/S, on marketing and promoting Google Twin Ports,” said AAF Duluth/Superior President Denise Archer. “This is an exciting, timely topic for anyone with a stake in the local economy.”
Regardless of whether the Twin Ports’ bid—submitted March 23—was selected from the nationwide competition, it’s clear that Duluth/Superior’s ability to mobilize, self-promote and spread the word was a successful in itself. Google Twin Ports gained extensive national media attention and has consistently ranked #1 or #2 in Google Fiber share-of-voice metrics. The attention has prompted businesses to investigate relocating to the area—regardless of whether Google Fiber does.
AAF Duluth/Superior, composed of 100+ local communications professionals, works to enhance the professional development of club members while increasing recognition for the advertising industry and giving back to the community. It is a local affiliate of the American Advertising Federation, a national organization that represents the advertising industry in its entirety.
